Digital Audio (HDMI) Not plugged in

HDMI, HTPC, Windows 8 Add comments

I hade some trouble getting the audio to work with HDMI on my new computer with the following :

Gigabyte H87N-WIFI
Intel i3 -4130T
Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center

I first installed Windows 8.1 and then the Intel drivers and Realtek drivers with the result of no audio through the HDMI, and the Playback Devies stated that Digital Audio (HDMI) “Not plugged in”.

At that point my Device Manager looked like this:

and my “Playback devices” in Sound looked like this:

There seems to be 3 drivers involved in the HDMI audio.

1. The Display driver (e.g. Intel Intel HD Graphics 4400)
2. The Audio driver (e.g. Realtek HD Audio)
3. The Display Audio driver (“Display Audio” part of the Display driver)

But the last one Display Audio driver doesn’t get installed correctly. To fix this I extracted the driver file I downloaded from Intel in my case the name was Intel® HD Graphics 4400 with the filename win64_153318.exe. Extract the file with WinRAR or something similar. When extracted you will find a folder called DisplayAudio.

There we will find the driver we need.

There are no setup file so you need to install it manually by right clicking on IntcDAud.inf and select Install.

After this my Device Manager looked like this:

and my “Playback devices” in Sound looked like this:

And now I have sound on my TV through HDMI.
